Why should I take the NNAAP exam? The purpose of the NNAAP Examination is to make sure that you understand and can safely perform the job of an entry-level nurse aide. Nurses intending to become CNAs or Certified Nursing Assistants need to pass the NNAAP exam to certify as a CNA.

Where can I take the test?
The NNAAP Certification Program qualifying Exam is offered by Pearson Vue.

How do I register for the test?
To register, NNAAP candidates must obtain their forms from their nursing facility employers, nurse aid training program, or through the American Red Cross. After completing the registration forms with the assistance of the training program provider, a copy of valid training certificates and the payment of the examination fee are submitted.  Completed forms should be mailed to the closest American Red cross office. Once the Red Cross receives the registration form, documents and fees, the test date is scheduled in a confirmation letter issued two to five business days after the required materials are received.

What are the eligibility requirements for NNAAP?
To be eligible for NNAAP examination, you must be 16 years or older, must submit a criminal background check through the Department of Education.  Candidates must have completed a nurse-aid training program within the last 24 months, be approved by the Department of Education and must  be a student nurse with an approved application of eligibility from the relevant authorities. Candidates whose nurse aid registration has lapsed must re-test, as well as those certified in other states.

What is the format of the NNAAP exam?
The Written Examination is comprised of seventy (70) multiple-choice questions. Ten (10) of these questions are pre-test (non-scored) questions on which statistical information will be collected. If you prefer to take the Oral exam, the Oral Examination is comprised of sixty (60) multiple-choice questions and ten (10) word recognition (or reading comprehension) questions. If you want to take the Oral Examination, you must request it when you submit your Examination Application. At the Skills Evaluation you will be asked to perform five (5) randomly selected nurse aide skills. You will be given twenty-five (25) minutes to complete the five (5) skills. You will be rated on these skills by a Nurse Aide Evaluator.

The NNAAP written exam will test you on the following areas:
